January 2014 Product Update

The Police Chief keeps you on the cutting edge of law enforcement technology with monthly product announcements. Items about new or improved products are based on news releases supplied by manufacturers and distributors; IACP endorsement is in no way implied.

Video solutions

Integrated Microwave Technologies, LLC (IMT), announces its new Concealment Video Kits (CTVK), complete video solutions that allow law enforcement to survey an area covertly for documented video evidence using a wide range of indoor and outdoor hides with integrated video transmitters, such as standard GPS stands, outdoor colonial and street lights, alarm clocks and fire detectors, and even a mock owl that can be positioned in a tree. The CTVK is a convenient, all-in-one kit comprised of a hide with an integrated miniature Concealment COFDM Transmitter (CTxII), a COFDM briefcase Mobile Viewer Receiver, a Nexus 7 Android tablet for transmitter control, battery chargers, and all required cabling. Housed in a robust, portable carrying case, the CTVK uses COFDM digital RF transmission.

HD monitors in rack mount enclosure

TRU-Vu Monitors introduces a triple rack mount monitor, the RM-555G, which features three high-resolution 5-inch LCD monitors in a rugged 19-inch rack mount enclosure. Each of the three 5-inch screens has 1.2 megapixel resolution and a 16:9 native aspect ratio (switchable to 4:3). Each screen has five sets of video inputs and outputs: VGA, Analog-RGB, S-Video, Component (YPbPr), and Composite (BNC). They also feature tally lights and settings memory. The powder-coated steel enclosure is 3U high, and fits any standard EIA 19-inch rack. The entire enclosure tilts up to 180 degrees to ensure optimal viewing angles. The RM-555G is ideal for a wide range of law enforcement applications, including control rooms, command and control centers, and more.

Lightbar

Federal Signal introduces Integrity, a linear lightbar with a distinct modern shape that features advanced lightbar technologies. SpectraLux multicolor LED technology provides the ability for a single light source to change color while in operation. LEDs can be programmed to flash between red, blue, amber, or white and allows Integrity to provide continuous light output as the LED light source changes from a warning pattern to takedown and alley lights, amber SignalMaster directional patterns, or a floodlight feature. Integrity also features Solaris LED reflector technology to increase off-axis warning and maximize the LED light source, eliminating critical dark spots and distributing 360 degrees of coverage.

Rechargeable pistol grip spotlight

Larson Electronics announces the HL-85-3W1-GREEN LED Handheld Spotlight that features a high-strength weather- and UV-resistant housing, tool-free servicing, inline dimming controller, and a powerful three-watt LED that produces green light output ideal for tactical operations. The LED in this spotlight has a 120,000-hour service life and produces green light natively, meaning there is no filter or colored lens to reduce output or distort the beam. The UV- and weather-resistant housing is constructed of impact-resistant nylon, and the lamp assembly is fully potted and machined from a single piece of high-grade aluminum, giving this highpower spotlight excellent durability even under abusive conditions.

In-car video system

COBAN Technologies, Inc., announces the release of a new generation of in-car video systems for law enforcement agencies. The system features a 4.3-inch touchscreen monitor, built-in GPS and crash sensor, dual 64 GB solid-state drives, and high-definition recording and was designed to be portable, giving agencies the option to easily move the unit from vehicle to vehicle as needed. The snapshot camera provides a close-up view of the license plate of the vehicle being stopped. The system includes two solid-state 64 GB drives, eliminating moving parts so the video recording will never skip due to bumps in the road or vehicle vibrations. The internal FailSafe drive serves as a backup to the removable drive, continuously capturing footage whenever the system is turned on. This feature allows video to be retrieved days later, even if the system was not in record mode at the time of the event.
