Sightmark announces the Q5 Triple Duty flashlight, which uses an XR-E Cree LED connected to a DC-DC regulated circuit. The Q5 Triple Duty creates 280 lumens of light for over 90 minutes of continuous operation. After the maximum power output time has been expended, the circuit regulates the CR-123A battery power supply to provide hours of additional light at reduced lumens. The Q5 is designed to operate continuously for over 24 hours. The Q5 measures a hair over 5 inches long and is 1.25 inches wide at its widest point.

Night vision sight
American Technologies Network Corp. (ATN) introduces the ATN MARS series of night vision weapon sights, featuring a new ATN proprietary feature: a two-color manual brightness of the aiming reticle. This unique feature allows operators a choice of color (red or amber) of the projected reticle depending on operator preference and the lighting situation. MARS series sights use third-generation ITT Pinnacle Image Intensifier tubes. The Pinnacle tubes are designed to provide superior performance in high-light or light-polluted areas, such as urban environments, while minimizing any halo effects.

Video recording system
The Raytheon JPS Communications’ DVU-1000 is a rugged, broadcast-quality video recording system designed specifically to meet the demanding needs of law enforcement and security personnel. In addition to providing broadcast-quality video and audio, the DVU-1000 is designed to record date, time, vehicle and personnel identification, Global Positioning System information, vehicle speed, radar target data, and a variety of other information all synchronized and recorded directly into the evidentiary record on a frame-by-frame basis. The DVU-1000 also supports automation of the evidence archive process in full compliance with mandates and regulations governing the chain of custody of evidence.

In-car video system
WatchGuard Video announces the WatchGuard DV-1 in-car video system. Thanks to a unique capability of this system, officers may be able to make arrests in cases where evidence would otherwise be lacking. Because the WatchGuard DV-1 includes both a DVD drive and an integrated hard drive for continuous background recording, events can be captured on the hard drive automatically, even if the system is not intentionally placed in traditional recording mode. The system’s dual-drive redundant architecture enables features like background recording, automatic record overflow, and automatic DVD backups.

ReconRobotics, Inc., introduces the Recon Scout IR reconnaissance robot, a throwable, mobile robot with the capability of seeing in complete darkness. The Recon Scout IR is intended to enable police to gain inside knowledge about dangerous and hostile environments before sending in personnel. With the Recon Scout IR, special weapons and tactics teams will be able to gain mission-critical information in situations where there is no ambient light by simply throwing the Recon Scout IR into a dark environment and using the handheld Operator Control Unit to move the robot.

Emergency notification platform
Rave Wireless has made its Rave Guardian service available to enterprises, healthcare organizations, municipalities, and other organizations. Rave Guardian transforms users’ mobile phones into personal safety devices, allowing a transient workforce, late-night workers, town residents, disaster recovery employees, and others to activate a mobile monitoring service that shares their picture, mobile number, and personal information with police if and when they feel unsafe. Police receive this information either on smart phones or in the station or office.

REDFLEX Platescan is an automated license plate recognition device that uses advanced digital technology to assist officers in locating and identifying vehicles suspected of criminal activity. The device features neural network technology, which is engineered to read up to four vehicles per second and to significantly enhance the accuracy of the read compared with traditional optical character recognition systems. The system can be used in both mobile and fixed settings and is capable of high-speed plate recognition across multiple lanes of traffic moving in speeds of more than 110 miles per hour.

The new P380 pistol from Kahr Arms, chambered for the .380 ACP caliber, has a 2.5-inch barrel and an overall length of 4.9 inches, with a height of only 3.9 inches. Constructed of a black polymer frame, matte stainless slide, and textured polymer grips, the P380 weighs just under 10 ounces without a magazine and features a lock breech, a modified Browning-type recoil lug, and the “safe cam” action found in all Kahr pistols. These features result in a microcompact pistol with very little felt recoil and quick follow-up shots.

Thermal imaging technology
FLIR Systems, Inc., announces the PathFindIR LE thermal imaging system for law enforcement vehicles. The system is designed to reduce risks to officers driving at night and allow them to see people from more than 1,000 feet away in total darkness during surveillance operations. To the PathFindIR LE, warm objects appear white and cool objects appear black in the real-time video display. This advanced technology is engineered to provide vehicle operators with the ability to see more than four times farther than with headlights. ■
