s the holidays approach and many consider options for personal year-end charitable giving opportunities, the IACP Foundation is thrilled to announce receipt of an extraordinary $5,000 contribution from an anonymous donor to be used as the groundwork of a membership-wide matching gift drive. In honor of both the generosity of this donor and the spirit in which this contribution was made, the Foundation will soon launch an end-of-year giving appeal to the IACP membership. For every dollar donated to the Foundation during this special time, the anonymous patron will match the donated funds up to a total of $5,000. This is a tremendous opportunity for each member of the association, and supporters of the Foundation, to build upon an already exceptional gift. It is the hope of Foundation Board and staff that members will consider this a chance to give back to the law enforcement family. As the program is launched, donors will have the choice to be recognized on the Foundation Web site under a newly created and specially highlighted “Matching Gift” page. Contributors to the Foundation, as always, have the option to remain anonymous, but this matching gift drive provides the Foundation an occasion to publicly recognize donors who realize the value of Foundation programs and services. Did You Know?
The Foundation receives significant support from corporate partners that have a vested interest in the advancement of professional policing. Foundation Board members include representatives from Motorola, Target, Lockheed Martin, Blauer Manufacturing, Inc., W.L. Gore and Associates, DuPont, the Alarm Association, the Freeh Group International, and SafirRosetti of the Global Options Group. Support from these partners is critical and provides the Foundation with the resources necessary to develop and deliver programs that directly benefit the law enforcement leaders of today and tomorrow. However, it is vitally important that the members of IACP recognize their role in the support of the Foundation as well. Personal giving, major gifts, stock transfers, annuities, and endowments are all part of any non-profit organization’s healthy fundraising plan and the Foundation is no exception. Members of the Foundation Board, the IACP Board of Officers, and Executive Committee; IACP Past Presidents; and the chairs of many divisions, sections, and committees have already participated in a leadership giving campaign that is still currently in process. Make Plans Now
The Foundation Board encourages the IACP membership to be on the lookout for the 2009–2010 Membership Matching Gift Drive. Donors will have the ability to make donations online, via faxed donation form, or by check and can rest assured that their transactions are secure and that Foundation financial information is overseen annually by an external auditor. IACP members are invited to visit the Foundation’s Web site at www.theiacpfoundation.org to see the real “faces of the Foundation.” Take a moment to look at the young SELECT Scholarship awardees, the captain from West Miami, Florida, who received a year’s scholarship to pursue his bachelor’s degree, or the commander from Normandy, Missouri, who attended 10 free weeks of leadership training all thanks to Foundation programs. Your gift truly makes a difference to the Foundation. ■
