The Police Chief Update
September Issue
IACP serves the leaders of today and develops the leaders of tomorrow. The IACP’s 40 Under 40 award was developed to recognize 40 law enforcement professionals under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, commitment, strong values, and excellence. The awardees featured in the September 2016 Police Chief are current and emerging leaders who go beyond their basic duties and serve as role models for their colleagues and community members.

FEATURES
The identification and development of future leaders are essential to producing top performers who will confidently and strategically lead their organizations into the future. If police executives focus on identifying young talent in their agencies, they will ultimately enhance their organizations—the challenges are knowing what makes an emerging leader and how to develop talent when it’s found.

The law enforcement professionals selected for IACP’s inaugural 40 Under 40 award include officers and civilians from around the world who demonstrate leadership; strong values; and commitment to the profession, their agencies, and their communities.

In late 2013, the New Jersey State Police realized the crime gun processing protocol in place was not optimized to provide timely, actionable intelligence for firearm-related investigations. Through collaboration, process mapping, and careful leveraging of human resources and technology, the NJSP revised its crime gun intelligence system into the successful program it is today.
