The FBI provides the United States with reliable statistics pertaining to crime and law enforcement through its Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. As a precursor to the FBI’s UCR Program, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) developed a system for collecting uniform police statistics across the United States. After this program was developed, the IACP urged Congress to authorize the collection of crime information.
