ME_FBI 01/20/2006 jahi chikwendiu Some have questioned whether the FBI has made sufficient progress in transforming itself nearly five years after Sept. 11, 2001. Today, the FBI is struggling to evolve from a national police force focused on solving crimes after they occur into an intelligence agency working to thwart terrorists attacks before they can happen on U.S. soil. FBI recruits practice defensive tactics in the academy gym, pulling their handguns and yelling “FBI, Don’t Move!” Over 18 weeks, they will undergo 78 hours of training in defensive tactics and arrest techniques, including handcuffing, martial arts, street fighting, kicks, searching and weapon retention.
