In the simplest form, using research ensures that you can determine whether you are successful. Each task, goal, or operation needs a clearly defined outcome that is expected (hypothesis) and measures that can be evaluated at the end to determine if the expected outcome was met (drawing conclusions). This does not mean that we are successful all or even most of the time, but it does ensure we are tracking and aware of whether the operation had the effect we expected.
