Motorcycle powertrain
Harley-Davidson announces the Big Twin powertrain for the 2007 FLHTP Electra-Glide and FLHP Road King law enforcement motorcycles. The Twin Cam 103 Police engine, which is only available on law enforcement models, comes standard with electronic sequential port fuel injection (ESPFI). The Twin Cam 103 displaces 1690cc and is designed to produce up to 102 pound-feet of peak torque at 2500 revolutions per minute. The six-speed Cruise Drive transmission, which was introduced on the Dyna family in 2006, features gear ratios designed to match the torque curve of the new Twin Cam 103 engines. The addition of a sixth gear is designed to reduce top-gear revolutions per minute by 11 percent, compared to earlier transmissions.

Video mounting system for Charger
WatchGuard Video, a leader in the digital in-car video industry, announces a mounting system that will enable the DV-1 digital in-car video system to be mounted in the new Dodge Charger, a car whose low roofline poses a challenge for installers of video systems. The system is designed to allow the DV-1 system to be installed into a recess above the headliner without decreasing visibility for the officer operating the vehicle.

Laser sight
LaserMax Inc. announces the Uni-Max, a rail-mounted laser sight. Designed to be smaller than a matchbox and as light as a single .45-caliber ACP round, Uni-Max features an integral rail that allows the user to add other rail-mounted accessories, such as a tactical light or infrared laser. LaserMax’s rail-mounted laser sight is designed to quickly and securely attach to any Picatinny- or Weaver-style rail, allowing for use on both pistol and long-gun platforms. Constructed from durable fiberglass-reinforced nylon, the laser system features a mounting mechanism that is designed to be consistent with firearms safety guidelines.

In-car video
Decatur Electronics Inc. announces the Gemini Plus Digital in-car video system. It is designed to record up to 13 hours of high-quality images that can then be quickly downloaded through a docking system to any designated computer. Designed to offer secure and fast data transfers, the Gemini Plus Digital also offers a pre-event record of 30 seconds. The Sony camera is engineered to take high-quality video, which is displayed on the 3.5-inch color monitor, and the video is integrated with wireless audio and other feature options such as light activation. Recording units are designed to be mounted overhead in a single piece or installed in a two-piece configuration in a variety of police vehicles. The video is also designed to interface with radar units for data overlays.

Work light
UK International, also known as Underwater Kinetics, announces the release of Unilite Zoom, a flashlight designed for use in confined spaces. The Unilite Zoom has a 360-degree rotating lamp head designed to allow users to focus the light exactly where it is needed. A sturdy nylon clip is designed to allow the user to attach Unilite Zoom to a coat pocket, safety strap, or belt. The Unilite Zoom’s high-intensity LED is designed to project a long-lasting, even, bright beam. With a twist of the bezel, the user can switch between an intense narrow beam and a broad illuminating beam. The light is designed to be waterproof up to 10 feet, and its non-corroding ABS and polycarbonate plastic construction casing is designed to be tough and electrically nonconductive.

DNA extraction system
Promega Corporation introduces the Maxwell 16 System, an automated DNA extraction system designed to fit on a laboratory bench and process up to 16 samples in 20 minutes. The instrument’s preloaded cartridges and built-in protocols are engineered to deliver purified DNA samples at the push of a button. The Maxwell 16 System employs the Promega DNA IQ System to isolate high-quality DNA samples and incorporates a built-in heating mechanism designed to result in higher elution efficiencies and greater DNA yields.

IPMA-HR announces a group of tools for selection and promotion in public safety. The IPMA-HR Public Safety Assessment Center System (PSACS) is designed to help assess the promotional potential of police personnel and assist in making promotion decisions all without incurring the added expense of hiring consultants. The IPMA-HR Job Analysis Service is designed to help administrators conduct a job analysis using Web-based job analysis surveys and linkage questionnaires. Other new additions to IPMA-HR’s line of testing services and products are an item-writing service for customized tests and an entry-level police officer test.

Handgun
Nighthawk Custom announces its Nighthawk Custom 10-8 gun for law enforcement and serious shooting sport enthusiasts. The 10-8 Performance Unotched rear sight is machined from hardened bar stock and is designed to allow for quick target acquisition in challenging conditions and for numerous sight adjustments while providing a comfortable carry. The Nighthawk Custom 10-8 also features a low-profile Dawson Light Speed rail for attachment of Surefire X200 Series lights for use at night or in any low-light environment. Other features include the serrated front sights with a tritium insert and a long, solid trigger with a hidden fixed overtravel stop. The weapon has front and rear cocking serrations on the slide, a strong-side-only safety, a checkered front strap, and a lanyard loop mainspring housing.
