Community trust in the police is essential to effective policing, public safety, and supporting the security and well-being of both officers and community members. Trust is vital to establishing a safe, collaborative, and cooperative environment where police professionals can successfully carry out their duties and community members feel respected, protected, and served. The IACP identifies community trust as a major component in enhancing the profession and has launched the Trust Building Campaign Toolkit to help agencies build collaborative relationships and foster trust with their communities.
