Implementing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Acts in NICS

On June 25, 2022, the U.S. Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 (BSCA), in an effort to reduce gun violence in the United States.1

One requirement of BSCA is for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to expand background checks of prospective firearm transferees who are under 21 years old (U21 transactions).
